WHAT IS TRADE REMEDIES / TRADE DEFENCE INSTRUMENTS / TRADE POLICY MEASURES

When imports are causing injury to domestic industry, as a remedy countries have right to impose measures in the form of

1- Anti-dumping duty pursuant to and by the investigation under the WTO Anti-Damping Agreement;

2- Countervailing duty against the subsidy pursuant to and by the investigation under the WTO Agreement on Subsidies and Remedial Measures;

3- Additional customs duty or quota as a general safeguard measure pursuant to and by the investigation under the WTO Safeguards Agreement

The above-mentioned anti-dumping, countervailing duty and safeguard measures are categorized as Trade remedies, Trade defense instruments or trade policy measures.
